DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Clairvoyant (US title: The Evil Mind) is a 1935 drama film made in the UK, starring Claude Rains, Fay Wray, and Jane Baxter, and directed by Maurice Elvey. It was based on the novel of the same name by Ernst Lothar. Rains plays Maximus (“King of the Mind Readers”), who with the help of his wife, Rene (Fay Wray), and their secret code, performs an English music hall mind-reading act. Then, one night, he notices Christine Shawn (Jane Baxter), a beautiful woman in the audience, and his act begins to turn into reality. He is able to tell a man what is in his letter without any assistance. Maximus doesn’t think much of it, but then, by chance, he and Christine run into each other on a train, and he foretells an impending crash. He pulls the emergency cord to stop the train, but nobody believes him. He, his family and Christine get off, and a few minutes later, what he saw comes to pass. Christine tells her father, who happens to own a newspaper. He publishes the story, making Maximus famous. Eventually, Maximus realizes that his power only works when Christine is around; as they spend more time together, Christine falls in love with him, and Rene becomes jealous. Meanwhile, his mother (Mary Clare), reveals that she has seen the same thing before and believes that no good will come of it, but Maximus pays little attention, enjoying his well-paid success. Another of his well-publicized predictions comes true. A 100-to-1 long shot wins

Sam Worthington interview on ROVE (live with Rove McManus) – FINAL ROVE SHOW. Sam Worthington was handpicked for AVATAR by James Cameron and made his mark internationally starring opposite Christian Bale earlier this year in “Terminator Salvation”. In 2000, Worthington made his feature film debut with a starring role in the Australian film “Bootmen,” in the role of Adam Garcia’s brooding older brother. His performance garnered him an Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. His subsequent Australian film credits include “Dirty Deeds,” with John Goodman, Toni Collette and Sam Neill, for which he earned a Film Critics Circle of Australia (FCCA) Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor; and “Gettin’ Square,” with David Wenham. He also had a small role in the World War II drama “Hart’s War,” starring Bruce Willis. It was his layered performance in Cate Shortland’s critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2004 film “Somersault” that brought Worthington international attention. He won an AFI Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and earned his second FCCA Award nomination. In addition, the film made a clean sweep of the year’s AFI Awards, winning in all 13 film categories – a first in the awards’ history. Worthington went on to

Beautiful Boxer (2003) – Movie Trailer

Author : Betting on Profit

Rising even higher than the greatest expectations engendered by the International Press when it became a favorite of the film festivals, BEAUTIFUL BOXER is one of the more poetic, sensitive, luxuriously vivid and colorful films to come out of Thailand – and that is saying a lot, given the extravagant epics that yearly grow in popularity. This work of art is simply stunning in content, in direction, in acting, and in heartfelt simplicity of message. This is a great one! Writer/director Ekachai Uekrongtham based his first film on the true story of Parinaya Charoemphol AKA Nong Toom, a famous Thai athlete Muay Thai boxer (better known as ‘kick boxer’ – a demanding, dangerous sport) who entered the world of Muay Thai to garner enough money to help his family and pay for his ultimate sex-change surgery. A tough story to offer general audiences, perhaps, but Ekachai Uekrongtham presents this edgy biography with such cinematic finesse and care that it becomes a film that should appeal to a very wide audience. And much of that success is due to the towering performance by Asanee Suwan in his acting debut: Suwan is in life a professional kick boxer who won the title role after extensive auditions by many practitioners of Muay Thai. BEAUTIFUL BOXER takes us through the life of Nong Toom, his childhood in a family of loving accepting parents who respect his love of beauty and things feminine, his brief period of being a monk who must leave the monastery because of his inclinations
