www.nytimes.com Many of the country’s largest casinos, long opposed to gambling games like poker on the Internet, are now having second thoughts. Although online gambling is popular with millions of Americans, it is illegal in the United States, and the casino industry has considered it a threat. But a trade group that represents major casinos like Harrah’s Entertainment, MGM Resorts and Wynn Resorts is working on a proposal that would ask Congress to legalize at least some form of online gambling, the group’s chief executive said. The group, the American Gaming Association, issued a statement in the spring suggesting that online gambling could be properly regulated — the first public indication that its hard-line stance was softening. The chief executive, Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr., said in an interview by phone that the association had not settled on the details of its proposed legislation, including how the proceeds from Internet gambling would be taxed. “We have been working on something,” he said, “and continue to work on it.” Gambling specialists said it was likely that any casino-supported legalization would be limited to Internet poker because it was considered the least threatening to brick-and-mortar casinos. Internet poker already had the backing of some in the casino industry, and was seen as a new and lucrative source of revenue for the casino companies. Congress has been weighing a bill by Representative Barney Frank, Democrat of Massachusetts, that would …

A fine speech. So do we just have to get this money to get the people who implement policies to agree with our position? Is there a better way?

how difficult and CHEAP to start a check like a credit card, issue a magnet strip card with small biometric fingerprint reader (extremely cheap, does not collect actual fingerprint database but a unique combination of “dots” and works extremely well – eg. built into all my lenovo’s) a little upgrade from the cards the casino’s use now. subscriber based, up the hardware security against most (D)DOS and time it for a physical finger scan to keep bots down? my 12yr old son can code it.

@CooperLordOfAll ? Why is this thumbed up? Voting for the lesser of 2 evils doesn’t work. Obama and McCain’s campaigns in 08 were funded by the same bailout receiving banks. Why not vote for a guy whose loyalty is with the country and freedom, instead of with the corporations and banks. The media is so sellout, they influence peoples opinion(brainwash) and say RON PAUL is a “fringe candidate” or “can’t win.” His own party doesn’t like him because he doesn’t put the party b4 the country.

We shouldn’t have a one-size-fits-all federal government that has the power to regulate our lives… We should have a bunch of small local governments that we can easily influence and change.
One government for 300+ million people doesn’t make any sense. Smaller is better… Local is better. Let’s shrink the federal government so we can have control of our own lives again.

@invaliduser1000 dont understand your comment. the online gambling ban only causes more money to leave the US, because online players find ways around the rules and export their money. by legalizing US gambling, more money is kept in the US.

43 states run lotteries every day of the year. So the government doesn’t have a moral leg to stand on in its opposition to gambling. One of the 7 states that does not run a lottery is Nevada, so you know moral opposition to gambling is not Nevada’s motive either.
