Go to www.technomicon.com for our full article on the BUILD conference. In this first part of Sinofsky’s keynote at the BUILD conference, he presents an overview of Windows 8. Windows 8 features the new touch-enabled Metro interface, a dramatic departure from the traditional desktop user interface. Metro makes extensive use of dynamically updating tiles similar to Windows Phone 7, and is optimized for touch screens, although it can be used with a keyboard and mouse. MS is betting that touch screens will be universal for both desktop and mobile devices, in contrast with Apple. Windows 8 is something of a one-size-fits-all approach, in which all hardware platforms, desktop, laptop, and tablet, are required to support the full Win 8 OS, with built in support for the conventional Windows desktop. It remains to be seen whether this is really viable for ultra low power ARM devices, which don’t have the computing power of even Intel Atoms. ARM development for Win 8 appears to be lagging, and most of the demos were run on Intel based systems.

windows 7 is some and i have the windows 8 developers edition. I have to say so far its the bigest pice of crap i have seen. I do a lot of different things with my pc from photoshop to c coding and it seems to be slow. Windows 8 also seems to not be as compatible with your old software. as for windows live you have to sign in with it to play online games on xbox. So of corse theres a lot of users signing in. I don’t like tuch if you have kids they are always getting there hands dirty.

@IvanPlayStation4LiFe Your playstation fanboyism doesn’t justify android being the best OS.
Android does cost phone makers money, Microsoft owns the patent for it, and can sue each re-seller but instead offers a deal (unlike apple), when HTC and Samsung make an android phone, MS gets around $10 for each of their phones made,
Don’t hate microsoft just because of Xbox, there’s more to them than that.

Microsoft dealt a severe blow to Google (Android) and Apple (iOS) with Windows 8 running on a Samsung Win 8 tab. That tablet is a beast! No doubt Win 8 looks great on a tablet. Coupled with a dock, mouse, keyboard and Intel core i5 cpu, it might even replace my laptop. Netbooks are out these beast tablets are in. Looking forward to future gpu designs from NVidia and Amd (Ati)…
